Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is the most sacred Islamic city in the world. Every year, millions of pilgrims from around the world visit the Holy City (Kabba), a cube-shaped black stone considered to be the residence of Allah and part of Haj Yatra. Mecca is the place where Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, was born. From India alone, more than 200,000 Indians visit Mecca every year.
This year, the Indian government urged Saudi Arabia to increase India’s quota. Saudi Arabia has now proposed a quota for these Indian Muslim pilgrims and thereafter, the number of haj yatras that will be completed in Mecca in 2025 will be 1,75,025. The ministry further stated that all necessary preparations are made – flight, transport, Mina camps, accommodation and services, according to Saudi guidelines.
India’s Haj Yatris quota increases
The Ministry of Ethnic Minority Affairs said in a post about X: “The Indian government has given high priority to promoting pilgrimage to Indian Muslims. Due to ongoing efforts, India’s haj quota has increased from 136,020 in 2014 to 175,025 in 2025, and is awarded by the Sadi authorities every year.” Among them, the Haji Commission of India sent about 1,22,518 pilgrims. But this year, the Saudi Hay ministry has approved 1,75,000 haj pilgrims, that is, the Haymi ministry has approved to welcome 10,000 additional Indian Muslim pilgrims to Mecca.
How to register for Haj Yatra 2025
The Indian Pilgrimage Council approves the registration of hundreds of thousands of Indian pilgrims visiting Mecca every year. However, this registration can now be completed online. To register, pilgrims need to visit the official website of Haj Commission of India, https://hajcommittee.gov.in, where they can apply for a trip.
The pilgrims also have access to the HAJ mobile app Haj Suvidh, which is available on both Android and iOS (Apple) operating systems. The pilgrims also need some important documents, which prove their residence, date of birth, etc. The registration process is already online, so offline services cannot be used. This year, North Korea is expected to be held between June 4 and June 9, 2025.
