Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram said on Sunday he was confident that the Supreme Court would defeat the WAQF (Amendment) bill.
He urged non-Muslims to remain vigilant and said: “Don’t think that only Muslims are attacked…soon, Christians, Sikhs, janas, Buddhists will also face similar situations…”
Mr Chidambaram is introducing the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) to protest meeting here that violates WAQF laws.
The party organized statewide black flag protests against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s passage of the WAQF (Amendment) Act of 2025 and opposed the 11-year “anti-Tamil Nadu policy” implemented by the BJP-led coalition government. The protests were also held at the regional headquarters in Tamil Nadu, with leaders from all sides of the Indian group participating.
He claimed that the Modi government has been launching attacks on Muslims since 2014, and he is confident that the Supreme Court will remove the law. “After Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister [was brought in] And promulgated the Citizenship Amendment Act. The only Muslim majority states, Jamu and Kashmir, were divided into two, and their states were taken away. The Uttarakhand Parliament passed a unified civil code. Now, the WAQF (Amendment) bill has been passed. He added. Mr Chidambaram said that while any Hindu can donate his or her land or money to Hindu temples, Muslims should practice for five years in order to be able to donate to WAQF under the new law. [introduced] For Muslims? “Non-Muslims can also be appointed as the WAQF Board of Directors directly opposes Article 26 of the Constitution,” he said.
“All Hindu temples have trustees. [since repealed] Among the dead at night, they did the same thing this time. They are ready to undermine the peace in this country.
