During the protests, defame the statue with phrases such as “cross rights” and “trans-gender joy”
Chief Principal Stuart Bell, who led the policing operation to protest, said: “Criminal damage and destructionism have no place in the streets of London and undermines locals and visitors.
“While police support the public’s right to protest, crimes like this are meaningless and unacceptable. We are pursuing this and will take action against the person in charge.
“Working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) plans to remove graffiti, but this requires professional equipment, which we believe will be done soon.
“We are eager to talk to people who saw anything that day and urge any information, pictures or camera to come forward. Please call 101, cited 01/7396927/25.
Police have also received complaints from the public about signs and images displayed during yesterday’s protests.
They are investigating the photos sent, but so far they have found that they are from different events in the past or do not constitute a criminal offence.
Officials said they are reviewing videos of the protests and vowing to take action if there are signs of violation of the law.
