Hyderabad: A special investigation team (SIT) composed by the state government under the supervision of the Director General of Police and the head of CID Shikha Goel decided to review the registered online gambling cases across the state
At the first meeting chaired by Goel, it was decided to call all investigators (ios) to handle online betting cases across the state to hold a meeting at the Hyderabad State Police Headquarters. They have been instructed to carry case files and related information in the prescribed format.
SIT will review the investigation under existing circumstances, develop SOPs in all aspects of the investigation and guide iOS. Meetings will be followed with various other stakeholder agencies.
The five-person SIT is responsible for conducting a comprehensive and limited investigation of all online betting cases specially allocated or transferred to it. In addition, SIT will examine the online betting ecosystem to identify factors that contribute and propose necessary reforms to curb such activities.
It will assess legal provisions, regulations and restrictions that can be introduced to prevent organizations, promotions and advertising online betting and gaming, and propose appropriate legal measures in relation to the public interest.
All government departments and agencies in Telangana are required to provide comprehensive assistance to SIT. It will submit its final report within 90 days through the Director General of Police (DGP).
