Sheinbaum’s ruling with billionaire in court explodes

(Bloomberg) – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized a decision by the Supreme Court panel to prevent judicial justice in order to hear cases related to billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego.
Sheinbaum said all Mexicans must pay taxes. The case was won by ban Salinas, which prevented financial authorities from exploring their bank and brokerage accounts.
The justices listed a series of Batres posts on social media, suggesting a temptation on Salinas. Most positions begin before 2023, when justice was named by former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
“Isn’t this a biased decision?” Sheinbaum said Thursday at her daily media conference. “The fundamental problem is that everyone in Mexico has to pay taxes. You can’t say the rule of law for certain things, and for others that don’t work for me, there is no rule of law.”
Grupo Salinas representative of the Tycoon Consortium declined to comment.
The previous administration claimed that four of Salinas companies owed Pesos 63 billion ($3.1 billion), including huge fines dating back to 2008. Salinas, who has harsh criticism of the security and political situation of the ruling party, argued that he was charged twice with the same issue. He refused to pay the fine and said he would continue to fight in court.
Salinas’ lawyers have filed about 47 motions, including 22 bids, to ban certain judges from hearing cases to delay the decision on the Supreme Court’s five cases, Bartres said in a statement.
Salinas is one of Mexico’s wealthiest people, Elektra, a dealer in control banks and equipment, Internet provider Total Play Telecomunicaciones and Azteca. He has been close to Lopez Obrador since the mid-2000s, but their relationship has worsened in the last few years of the Amlo government. Sheinbaum has never been close to Salinas, who used his social media role to attack her party members.
