Restoring regional teaching languages will face practical challenges when a strong public perception is that English is the way to opportunity and success. However, the best way is to keep the aspirations of children and families at the core and intentional purpose of such policies.
Mr. Mulally is an educator, researchers, and volunteer organization chairs the seminar to discuss this issue and teach English skills in public schools.
Speech HinduTEC member Pl Vishweshwar Rao said the need for such workshops comes from the extensive observations that the TEC pointed out on its district-wide tour, which suggests that “even in backward community support, even in UK secondary education”.
“We toured from Adilabad. Support for the English media reflects grassroots volunteering for a level playing field. We found that children are able to read in English but not speak. We aim to connect children with educational resources and online content to promote inclusive education in the state.”
During a seminar with visiting professors at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus, Vijay Kumar Tadakamalla said that deliberations on whether English should be a medium of teaching, even now, indicate a failure of educational policy.
He observed: “It is wrong to introduce the concept of English media in schools and the lack of English education in government and private schools earlier. The actual flaw is at the level of education, and the problem is about bad education, not learning.”
Giridhar Rao of Azim Premji University shared his understanding, reflecting on the research conducted in the country and experiences around the world, saying that multilingual education based on native language can be the path forward, not one or one or debate.
Discussers presented various perspectives and experiences, such as how tribal children encountered English textbooks as alien content; practical challenges for teachers in teaching English secondary schools in state-owned schools; cultural and political aspects and differences between English as a language and medium; and the need for English in a globalized world.
