Shreyas Iyer Forces BCCI’s central contract hand, performance too big to ignore

Iyer, who was previously set up in the country, was not considered a contract in 2024 after failing to get himself on cricket early in the season, and BCCI authorized the standards for player qualifications. The mid-range batsman did not cause any injury issues in February 2024, resulting in the action of the governing body.
However, Iyer responded with his performance on the court starting from the domestic tournament. He played a key role in his successful season in Mumbai, winning the Ranji Trophy, Iran Cup and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
It is worth noting that he served as captain during the SMAT championship.
Iyer also led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL championship in 2024 and demonstrated his leadership skills as well as reliable mid-orders. These efforts restored his position in the national team setting. During the England series he returned to India’s ODI side and brought that momentum into the ICC Championship trophy, where he became India’s top scorer with 243 runs in five matches, including two and a half weeks.
In 2025, Iyer made his debut in eight ODIs with an average score of 424 times, 53.00, and in his fifties. His status continues in the IPL, and he now leads the Punjab King (PBK). Under his captain, PBK won four of six games, while Iyer contributed 250 runs, including in his thirties.
