Athani police in the Bellagarve area arrested six people for beating and killing for attempting to steal from a furniture store.
The young man of the deceased was identified as 16-year-old Vikas Shivadas Koshti, a native of the village of Aralikatti in Athani Taluk, who was found dead on May 1.
Since no one came forward and the body was found in a decomposition state, the police conducted a funeral and investigated the case.
After receiving information about the young man being beaten in a shed on Khaliar Road and hearing loud crying during the assault, police first asked a 36-year-old defendant, Abdul Bari Mulla, 36, who revealed the murder.
Police, together with Abdul Bari Mulla, arrested Zuber Ahmed Mohammed Akram, 34, Bilal Ahmed Muqtar Ahmed Moulvi, 25, Hazrat Bilal Ahmed Nalband, 28, Fayum Musa Nalband, 27, Fayum Musa Nalband, 36, and Mahesh Sanjay Kale, 36.
According to police, the teenager Vikas was captured by Abdul Bari and others for the purpose of stealing.
The defendant took him to Abdul Bari’s shed, where he was beaten. Therefore, Vikas admits to stealing from the furniture store.
The defendant then took Vikas to Teertha Village and found the stolen article, but could not find it.
Police said the defendant then took him back to the shed and beat him to death.
