Social activist Mano Bakthavatsalam died at the age of 95

Long-time Chennai Itite, Canadius music connoisseur and a person who actively works for social causes, died Friday at a city hospital. She is 95 years old.
Born in 1929, she studied at St. Rafael's School in Santhome and received her bachelor's degree from Queen Mary's College in Chennai. At the advice of her father, Seshachalam, a famous citizen of Madras, and a businessman, who volunteered. Her two sons and their family survived.
Her son Vijay said she missed attending the concert as she got older. She loves sewing and has machines from pre-independence eras. He added that she is a member of the committee of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, an honorary secretary for women in Tamil Nadu, and is a correspondent and secretary for NKT National Girls High School. She is also the vice president of Srinivasa Gandhi Nilayam and Madras Women's Association.
She won the International Internal Round Award for her highly commendable personal service.
V. Sriram, a historian who has known Ms. Bakthavatsalam for many years, recalls how she has been involved in multiple service organizations. “She used to work very enthusiastically, but without any big fanfare. You can even see her driving a car in her 80s. She used to be a committee member at the Conservatory of Music.”
