“Someone has to do this…”: Trump defends 125% tariff rise in China | World News

The day after increasing China’s tariffs to 125%, U.S. President Donald Trump defended his decision (local time) and noted: “Someone has to do that.” Trump exaggerated the $1 trillion in China’s trade with the United States and “turned around” through his aggressive tariff strategy.
In a meeting with Roger Penske’s NASCAR, Indy and IMSA champions, President Trump stressed that no other U.S. leader would make such a decision.
“Well, I think people jump a little bit. No other president will do what I do… Someone has to do that. It has to stop because it’s not sustainable. Last year, China got $1 trillion in trade with the United States… Now I’ve overturned.”
Trump has announced a 90-day suspension of reciprocity tariffs on all countries except China. During this period, the United States will reduce tariffs on all countries by 10%.
