The wife of BSF police officer Purnam Kumar Sahu, who is a Pakistani force, has met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She is calling on CM to intervene and ensure her husband’s release.
BSF Jawan, from Rishra, West Bengal, accidentally crossed the international border and was detained by Pakistan Rangers. His wife, Rajni Sahu, visited Ferojpur earlier, where he was appointed and met with senior BSF officials.

Mrs. Sahu told Bangladesh News Channel: “I have had a brief meeting with Mamata Banerjee. She is the chief minister, so her intervention will help speed up the matter.”
Mrs. Sahu had earlier expressed her hope that her husband could be brought back to the Pakistan Rangers via swaps, who was arrested by Indian troops in Rajasthan on May 3.
Possible exchange
Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee also discussed the issue and spoke with the Director General of the BSF. Mr Banerjee said he contacted BSF DG again after the ceasefire on Saturday.
“I called DG last night to make sure it is taken seriously now. The situation is improving and it is the right time to push his release,” the MP said.
“Harmless” UAV
BSF stationed on the South Bangladesh border on Sunday (May 11, 2025) downplayed concerns about the drone found in Mershidabad, calling it a harmless photography device with no payload capacity.
A statement from BSF said: “The drones recovered in Murshidabad are similar to those of any feature or event that our photographers usually use. It has been restored deep inside the Indian village (more than 2000 m).
The BSF added that the drone has a range of only 400-500 m and a flight time of 15-20 minutes, depending on the battery, a built-in 4K camera with no load carrying capacity.
