Earthquake 5.8 shocks Pakistan | World News

A statement from the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that on Saturday, the Richter scale shocked Pakistan’s 5.8 earthquake.
According to the NCS, earthquakes occur at shallow depths of 10 kilometers, making them susceptible to aftershocks.
In an article on X, NCS said: “M: 5.3, Open: 12/04/2025 13:00:55 IST, LAT: 33.70 N, Long: 72.43 E, Depth: 10 km: 10 km, Location: Pakistan.”
Shallow earthquakes are usually more dangerous than deep earthquakes. This is because seismic waves from shallow earthquakes are shorter and can travel to the ground, causing stronger ground tremors and can cause greater damage to structures and greater casualties.
Pakistan is one of the most active countries in the world, suffering from several major shortcomings. As a result, earthquakes in Pakistan occur frequently and are destructive.
Pakistan overlaps the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates geologically. Balluchistan Province, a tribal area of the federal government, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan Provinces are located on the southern edge of the Eurasian plateau of the Iranian Plateau. Sindh, Punjab and Pakistan-occupied Jamu and Kashmir provinces are located on the northwest edge of the South Asian Indian plate. Therefore, as two tectonic plates collide, violent earthquakes are prone to occur in the area.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s neighbor Tajikistan was shocked by a magnitude 4.2 earthquake.
In the post on X, NCS said: “M: 4.2, open: 12/04/2025 12:24:09 IST, LAT: 37.04 N, Long: 71.68 E, Depth: 110 km, Location, Location: Tajikistan: Tajikistan.”
On April 5, another Pakistani neighbor, Afghanistan, was shocked by the 4.2 earthquake on the scale of Richter.
“M: 4.2, open: 05/04/2025 08: 45:58 IST, LAT: 35.28 N, Long: 68.75 E, Depth: 90 km, Location: Afghanistan.”
No immediate reports of casualties or major damages. Waiting for more details.
