After a long wait, the water from the pumping station built by the Cauvery Riverbud near Melur was started for the drinking water plan of the drinking water program in order to start five wards in the Tiruverumbur and Kattur areas.
The purpose of the project is to provide 135 liters of drinking water to residents of wards 61, 61, 62, 63, 64 and 65, in Tiruverumbur, Kattur, Kattur and adjacent areas that brought it to Tiruchi Corporation’s authority in 2011 after the demarcation process. In order to complete the work as soon as possible, the company divided the project into three stages: the construction of pump stations, the construction of elevated storage tanks, and the laying of power supply and distribution lines. The project approved a fund of Rs 63 crore.
Construction began in 2017. Although the civic agency completed most of the work in both stages in two years, it was unable to start the work of the pumping station due to various problems. In 2020, 2021 and 2022, steady flow in water in Cauvery prevented the construction of pump station work and the sinking of collectors in the riverbed. After a prolonged delay, the contractor awarded Phase I project began construction work in February 2023 after closing in February 2023. However, contractors are unable to complete the work in 2023 and 2024.
The work was collected after the Metel Dam was closed in February. A team of specially trained personnel participated in the construction of the pump station, sinking the collector’s well and the installation of pumping and transformers.
Sources said all work has been completed. The pump station is designed to absorb 27 MLD of water per day. The collector has sunk to a depth of 800 meters. Three pump kits have been built to accommodate 150 horsepower.
A senior official told Hindus it was waiting to provide power. Officials from Tamil Nadu Power Plants Co., Ltd. (TNPDCL) inspected the scene. Since the pump station requires 200 hp over 200 hp, the chief electrical inspector must check the location to issue a safety certificate, which is mandatory. He is expected to visit at any time. After TNPDCL has issued a security certificate, it will provide power. All other works including wiring have been completed. The chance to pump water from the pumping station within 15 days is bright.
