Keep the little feathers’ tweets

These small bird groups were welcomed uninvited and created unforgettable memories. But as time goes by, these little kids disappear from our lives. Once enriched, the house’s sparrows are now a rare sight and a mystery in many places.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), World Sparrow Day is celebrated every March 20 to raise awareness and protect these small animals.
In Hyderabad, the Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (CORWA), the highest state agency has joined the program to protect sparrows from population decline.
“It’s time to wake up, in the happy world around us, the sparrow is lost,” Corwa said. “Sparrows always make us happy.
According to the ministry, World Sparrow Day was initiated by the bird conservation organization “Forever”. The purpose is to raise awareness of the decline in sparrow populations. The activity has spread to more than 50 countries. The purpose is to protect the sparrow and stop fading. In 2012, the sparrow became a state bird in Delhi. Since then, the event has attracted global attention. People everywhere celebrate sparrows and work hard to protect them.
Sparrows are small but important birds that play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. They help control insect populations by feeding on a variety of bugs and pests. Furthermore, sparrows are a key player in pollination and seed dispersion. Their presence enhances biodiversity, making it crucial to the health of rural and urban ecosystems.
In India, sparrows are not only birds. They are symbols of common history and culture. Sparrows is known for the name “Goraiya” in Hindi, “Kuruvi” and “Chirya” in Tamil are known in Urdu, and Sparrows has become part of everyday life passed down from generation to generation. They once filled the air with cheerful songs, especially in the villages, creating memories for many.
Despite their importance, the sparrows disappeared at an astonishing speed. There are several factors that lead to this decline. The use of unleaded gasoline results in toxic compounds that damage insects, and sparrows rely on food.
Urbanization also deprives them of their natural nesting space. Modern architecture lacks space for sparrows to build nests, reducing the places to raise young people.
In addition, the use of agriculture in agriculture reduces the number of insects, further affecting the food supply of sparrows. The growing presence of crows and cats, as well as the lack of green space, exacerbates the problem. These factors, along with changing lifestyles, make it difficult for sparrows to thrive.
Among these challenges, there are several inspiring efforts to protect the sparrows and bring them back to our lives. One such initiative is the “Save Sparrows” campaign led by environmentalist Jagat Kinkhabwala.
He stressed the need to strike a balance between development and environmental protection. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for the sport in 2017 has greatly raised awareness.
Another extraordinary initiative is the Koodugal Trust in Chennai. The organization involves school children creating Sarners. Children build cabins to provide food and shelter for sparrows. From 2020 to 2024, the Trust has built more than 10,000 nests, resulting in an increase in sparrow population. Such efforts underline the importance of involving the younger generation in conservation.
In Mysuru, Karnataka, the “early bird” movement introduces the world of birds to children. The program includes a library, event kit and a trip to the village to observe birds. These educational efforts are helping children recognize and understand the importance of sparrows and other birds in nature.
World Sparrow Day can remind you of the importance of keeping our little feathered friends. Whether it is through planting more greenery, reducing pesticide use or creating safe nesting spaces, every little effort is important. By celebrating World Sparrow Day, we can help bring these birds back into our lives and preserve harmony between nature and humanity.
