Strict action against Maoists demanding tribes not to visit Karigta: Mulug police

Hyderabad: The Mulug area police made it clear on Thursday that they would take strict action against CPI (Maoist) cadres to threaten people, especially tribes, not visit Karrigutta because bombs were planted in forest areas.

In a short video message, Police Chief Dr. Shabarish P said that CPI (Maoist) Venkatapuram and Wazeedu Regional Commission Secretary Shantha issued a statement two days ago asking people not to carry bombs with them because they will be exploded because of the bombs being planted.

Shabarish responded to the statement: “This is illegal and strict action. Tribal people have been relying on the forest for a long time. Their livelihoods will be affected. They will have to wander in the forest, which is their natural process into the forest to support cattle and other work.”

He assured: “Threat and limiting their livelihoods is illegal. There is strict action against them. People should not be afraid. Police will definitely take action against them.”

Shabarish said people should not be afraid of such threats, and Mulugu police are taking detailed security measures.

He added: “We are sanitizing the entire area with bomb disposal squads and the grooming operation has begun. People have to inform the police whether they have found any suspicious objects. We have been working to get the welfare of the tribe and we are with you.”

He found that Maoists’ mistakes were to blame the tribe’s police whistleblowers and asked senior officials to join the mainstream and provide rehabilitation programs provided by the state government for surrendered Maoists.
