Illinois violates Donald Trump’s executive order to ban transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports

The Illinois High School Association violated President Donald Trump’s order to ban trans athletes from participating in women’s sports.
After returning to the White House, Trump signed an executive order that bans trans athletes from playing, part of a radical change in the country’s transgender policy.
Illinois has now become the latest blue state against the federal government’s stance, and the High School Association has revealed that this will not comply with a similar stance in the ongoing legal battle between the Trump administration and Maine.
IHSA President Dan Tully said in an open letter to Republican lawmakers in the state that being consistent with the Trump administration could constitute a violation of the Illinois Human Rights Act.
“The Illinois Human Rights Act requires that transgender athletes be allowed to participate in events and plans that are aligned with the gender they determine. ”
There are 809 schools in Illinois that are members of the association, which has no state or federal funding.
The letter noted that the association seeks guidance from state Attorney General Kwame Raoul and the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
The association calls on state lawmakers to work with the Trump administration to agree on clear guidelines to avoid breaches of conflicting policies.

During the 2023-2024 school year, two biological boys participated in girls’ sports.
This year, three biological boys compete in the girls’ divisions of tennis, track and field and football.
Tully’s letter said that the IHSA’s simply desire to comply with the law and to have a correct position on which of the above is or whether it can be consistent between the required federal and state laws. ”
Republicans opposed the IHSA decision, and representatives Brian even called on the Trump administration to cut funds to states until lawmakers were in trouble.
“The whole policy is sick,” he told Fox News.
“Either you believe in fair competition or don’t. Today’s Democrats… don’t believe in fair competition. They put awakened ideology above the girls in the protection movement.
‘[The Trump administration is] Will have to participate here, and the leverage they have is federal funding.
“We get millions of dollars in federal funds from the government every year. And we didn’t really taste what we were going to keep. But I will seize the opportunity to do the right thing.

“It is the right thing to prohibit boys from participating in girls’ sports, so we need to do the hard things to achieve that.”
Illinois insists that state law requires transgender athletes to gain gender-based sports rights. This has been a policy since 2011.
The IHSA website states that the qualifications of trans athletes are determined by a range of factors.
One consideration is that gender identity is “good intention and/or for the purpose of gaining a competitive advantage.”
Maine has taken a similar defense, but the Trump administration is prosecuting officials.
The lawsuit comes weeks after a dispute between the Republican administration and Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, which led to threats to cut key funds for federal funds and clashed at the White House when the White House told Trump: “We will see you in court.”

Trump claims that Maine’s Education Bureau is allowing transgender girls to join the women’s team, violating the federal Title IX Anti-Discrimination Act.
The Justice Department is asking the court to order the state directs all schools to prohibit men from participating in sports competitions designated for women.
Attorney General Pam Bondi made it clear: “It’s very simple: girls play football in girls’ sports, boys play football in boys’ sports. Men play football in men’s sports, women play football in women’s sports.
“It was a huge problem for President Trump before he was elected.”
