State Government. Measures to avoid conflicts between people and elephants: George

Energy Minister KJ George said the state government will take the necessary measures to avoid human elephant conflict in the Marnard region.

The minister said that the Karnataka Development Plan (KDP) meeting will be chaired, which will be held in Chikamagalore on Saturday, and the minister said that the issue will be discussed and will be held with senior officials of the Ministry of Forests.

George responded to lawmakers and minister of Chikkamagaluru, Mr George, said a comprehensive plan for the conflict was necessary as neighboring Hassan and Shiva Island areas faced similar problems.

“The program must include elephant habitat restoration, community participation and restoration of elephant corridors,” he said.

MK Pranesh, vice chairman of the Legislative Council, said many elephants from Sakleshpur in Hassan have entered the Mudigere series of Chikkamagaluru. They roamed three to four groups, haunting the local public. He urged the minister to hold a meeting on the issue in Bangalore.

CT Ravi of MLC suggested that restoring elephant habitat is one of the solutions to the problem. If elephants had enough food in the forest, they would not enter human habitat.

The MLA caught the attention of the minister for Mudigere Nayana Motamma, and the elephant adjacent to Hassan has been causing trouble in her constituency.

Mr George’s response to lawmakers said the government would establish a camp in the Badra Wildlife Department to preserve captured elephants. In addition, officers have been driving elephants into human habitats.

MLA and senior officials of Sringeri TD Raje Gowda were present.
