Women make up the 64.4 PCs of Indian agricultural labor force, with only 10 PCs in senior agricultural companies: Report

Women in New Delhi make up 64.4% of India’s agricultural labor force, but only 6-10% of the companies related to agriculture and agriculture, according to a new report released on Friday.
Godrej Agrovet Ltd collaborated with Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) and Godrej Dei Lab at its second female at its second agricultural summit to launch the Women of Agribusiness – Opportunities and Challenges.
“At Godrej Agrovet, we believe that the future of agribusiness lies in empowering women through education, workplace inclusion and leadership development,” said Balram Singh Yadav, managing director of Godrej Agrovet, in a statement.
He added: “Last year, we committed to supporting 100,000 women across the agricultural value chain and I am proud to share that we have had a positive impact on 20,000 women in just one year.”
The report highlights that women account for 30-40% of total agricultural research enrollment, but few formal employment are available.
“The agricultural landscape in India brings us a stunning paradox: women form a large part of the agricultural workforce and education accomplices, but a large part of the graduates are not entering the formal employment structure,” said IIMA faculty member Vidya Vemireddy.
The report provides a roadmap to bridge gender differences, calling for equitable resource access, gender-responsive training and inclusive workplace reform.
At the summit, Nisaba Godrej and Balram Singh Yadav, executive chairman of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, announced the launch of the Godrej Agrovet Women’s Scholarship for five students engaged in agricultural research.
Mallika Mutreja, head of human resources, said the company increased women’s representation from 8% to 12% in fiscal 25 and was committed to 32% in fiscal 28.
The summit discussions discussed about “Breakdown Barriers for Agricultural Women” and “Breakdown Barriers for Breakthrough Room: Women in Leadership” and participated in industry leaders.
