BIS breaks raid warehouses on electronic universal platform selling unsafe products

New Delhi [India] March 20 (ANI): The Bureau of Standards of India (BIS) conducted searches and seizures in multiple warehouses of leading e-commerce platforms on Thursday, including Amazon and Flipkart, including cities such as Lucknow, Gurugram and Delhi.

According to the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Department of Food and Public Distribution Search and Seizures are curbing the distribution of non-compliant products through e-commerce platforms.

In a raid at an Amazon warehouse in Lucknow on March 7, BIS occupied 215 toys and 24 hand-made mixers, all without mandatory BIS certification.

Earlier, in February 2025, a similar operation was performed at an Amazon warehouse on Gurugram, resulting in seizures of 58 foil, 34 metal water bottles, 25 toys, 20 manual mixers, 7 manual mixers, 7 PVC cables, 2 PVC cables, two food mixers and one speaker – all speakers are unproven.

Similarly, in the raid at Gurugram’s Flipkart warehouse operated by Instakart Services Pvt Ltd, BIS confiscated 534 stainless steel cylinders (vacuum insulation), 134 toys and 41-bit speakers, failing to pass certification.

BIS’s investigation into multiple violations of Amazon and Flipkart traces uncertified products to Techvision International Pvt Ltd. Under this leadership, BIS conducted a raid in two different facilities at Techvision International in Delhi, discovering approximately 7,000 electric water heaters, 4,000 electric food mixers, 95 electric rooms of gas heaters and 40 Gasissifitifitiviativation without the need to use BBIS to stabilize.

Confiscated uncertified products include brands such as Digismart, Activa, Inalsa, Cello Swift, Butterfly, etc.

After seizing the materials, BIS initiated legal proceedings under the BIS Act of 2016 to hold the responsible entity responsible. BIS has filed two court cases against M/S TechVision International Pvt Ltd for violations of Sections 17(1) and 17(3) of the BIS Act of 2016.

Under Article 17 of the BIS Act 2016, the breacher faces a fine of no less than Rs 2 million, which may be ten times the value of the goods sold or sold. In addition, depending on the severity of the violation, the offender may also face up to two years in prison.

BIS is actively conducting market surveillance to ensure that consumer products available on the market, including on e-commerce platforms, comply with applicable safety and quality standards.

As part of the surveillance, BIS purchased various consumer products and conducted rigorous testing under the Ministry to verify compliance with the prescribed standards.

Products under market monitoring include commonly used consumer products such as household pressure cookers, hand-held mixers, food mixers, electric irons, room heaters, PVC cables, gas stoves, toys, two-wheeler helmets, switches, socks, sockets, sockets, sockets, sockets sockets and sockets sockets and aluminum foil for food packaging. Considering the potential harms brought by unqualified quality products, the central government has BIS certified for these products for the public interest.

However, during the monitoring activity, BIS has determined that several uncertified products are sold on e-commerce platforms, such as Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra, BigBasket, and even though these products are mandatory, the department has added BIS certification in the issuance.

Uncertified products include those without ISI marking or ISI marking with invalid license number (CM/L number).

These uncertified products do not conduct independent third-party testing on consumers, thus posing a significant security risk to consumers to ensure they meet the minimum safety and performance standards.

The ministry said these massive seizures highlighted the wide range of issues of unsafe uncertified products sold online, highlighting the urgent need for e-commerce platforms to ensure that only BIS-certified products are listed under any circumstances required by the central government to ensure that only BIS-certified products are listed in order to ensure that only BIS-certified products are listed.

In this regard, BIS has issued notices to all these e-commerce platforms and directed them to ensure that they are properly certified before obtaining products that require BIS certification before being made available to consumers. (ANI)
