Supreme Court judge to visit Manipur Relief Camp on March 22

Six Supreme Court judges led by Judge BR Gavai are scheduled to visit the relief camp in Manipur on March 22 as part of the National Legal Services Agency (NALSA) announcement to lend legal and humanitarian aid in a state that has seen months of racial violence and suffering.

Judge Gavai, executive chairman of Nalsa, will be accompanied by judges Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan and N. Kotiswar Singh.
The judge’s visit will coincide with the 12th Century celebrations of the Manipur High Court.
“After the devastating sectarian violence on May 3, 2023, which left hundreds of lives and displaced nearly two years later, many continued to seek shelter in relief camps in Manipur, this visit by a Supreme Court judge.
Justice Gavai will actually open legal services and medical services in Manipur and legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West and Ukhrul areas. The necessary relief materials will also be distributed to the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Although the Legal Services Camp links IDP to the government welfare scheme, a team of 25 professional doctors in Chennai will conduct medical camps in the relief camp.
The Manipur State Legal Service has established 273 special legal aid clinics in relief camps to assist internally displaced persons with government benefits, lost documents and medical assistance.
