Tahawwur Rana

New Delhi: Prison sources said on Wednesday that Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who was accused of extradition from the United States, may be in a highly secure ward at a Tihar prison in India. They said the necessary preparations have been made to send him to prison and the prison authorities will await court orders.

Rana, 64, is a Pakistan-born Canadian nation and one of the main conspirators in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack. American citizen David Coleman Headley is also a U.S. citizen.

Rana was taken to India after his last attempt to escape extradition failed when the U.S. Supreme Court Justice rejected his application.
Officials said a multi-agency team has traveled to the United States to bring him to India.

On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists rushed into India’s financial capital using sea routes in the Arabian Sea, and coordinated attacks on the railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish center.

As many as 166 people were killed in nearly 60 hours of attacks, which caused shock waves across the country and even brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war.
