When it comes to wedding planning, the expense is usually center stage. According to a survey by Weddingwire, the average cost of holding wedding celebrations in India in 2024 is an astonishing Rs 2.96 lakh.
So, what is behind this surge in wedding costs? The increased demand for personalized celebrations appears to be the main contributors. Today’s couples tend toward unique customization experiences that showcase their personal style and preferences. From themed decorations and tailor-made outfits to luxurious destinations and customized dining, couples effortlessly make the wedding a wedding.
But the numbers don’t stop there. A large number of 30% of respondents spent more than Rs 3 million on weddings and shelled more than 4 million. In fact, 17% of couples go all out, plan their wedding with a budget of over 5 million! “Big Fat Indian Wedding” is very active and thriving.
Another interesting insight from the Weddingwire India survey is the size of the guest list. In 2024, the average number of guests for weddings in India was 330, which is a small but significant increase from 326 in 2023. It seems that the trend of larger celebrations seems to be a comeback, especially when people are keen to celebrate with everyone who is cherished.
When it comes to venue selection, it no longer just finds enough space, but creates the perfect environment for a big day. Whether it is a royal palace, a beach resort, a lush garden or a grand ballroom, couples choose to reflect the grand venues of celebrations. The growing demand for such luxurious locations, coupled with expectations for hotels and decor, helps increase costs. Booking places account for a large part of the wedding budget. According to the survey, the average cost of ensuring venues for all wedding events is about 600,000. But these figures vary, with 40% of respondents spending about 750,000 on wedding venues. For 31% of couples, the venue costs more than one million.
