No injuries. Hushis said they fired a ballistic missile at an international airport in Israel, the second attack since the U.S. began new activities against rebels earlier this week.
Over the past few decades, Israel has developed a complex system that can detect incoming fires and deploy only when the projectiles sail towards population centers or sensitive military or civilian infrastructure. Israeli leaders say the system cannot be 100% guaranteed, but it is attributed to it for preventing serious damage and numerous casualties.
This is a careful study of Israel’s multi-layer air defense system:
arrow: The system developed by the United States is designed to intercept long-range missiles. The arrow operates outside the atmosphere and has been used to intercept long-range missiles launched by Hotis, as well as long-range missiles launched by Iran in two direct exchanges last year.
David’s Sling: David’s slings were also developed in the United States to intercept mid-range missiles, such as those owned by Hezbollah in Lebanon. It has been deployed several times throughout the war. Iron Dome: The system is supported by Israel and is dedicated to shooting down short-range rockets. Since its activation early last decade, it has intercepted thousands of rockets – including shots launched by Hamas and Hezbollah during the current war. Israel says it has a success rate of more than 90%. Iron beam: Israel is developing a new system to intercept incoming threats with laser technology. Israel said the system would change the game because it is much cheaper than existing systems. According to Israeli media reports, the cost of a single iron dome intercept is about $50,000, while other systems may operate in a manner that exceeds $2 million. By comparison, the iron beam intercept would cost a few dollars, but according to Israeli officials, the system is not yet operating.
