Tamil Nadu: CM Stalin reorganizes cabinets again, aiming to reset narrative

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin conducted a second cabinet reshuffle in two weeks to curb political consequences and correct the public narrative ahead of next year’s rally elections. The move comes as the growing criticism of opposition and grand remarks within the DMK following the corruption and misleading allegations involving senior ministers.

In Thursday’s latest major move, Mining and Minerals Minister Murugan was transferred to the law department, while the law minister’s guardians were transferred to natural resources. Opposition accused Murugan of promoting the illegal transfer of natural resources in the state to other states and participating in corruption. Murugan defended himself, pointing out violations during the AIADMK regime, but the damage had been done. Sources said Stalin felt forced to act quickly to prevent further erosion of the government’s image.

DMK insiders told ET that Stalin is likely to continue making changes in the cabinet and in the party’s organizational structure to project a clean response image.
