The BBMP extends the government’s one-time settlement. building

BBMP has proposed a one-time settlement plan for government buildings and public sector enterprises (PSUs) under its restrictions. The plan will take effect by March 31 and is intended to promote the removal of property tax payments.

According to BBMP officials of the program, all government buildings and PSUs can pay property taxes at the revised tax rate. For outstanding payments starting from 2019-20, property owners only need to pay a principal amount of zero interest and a nominal fine of Rs 100 while taking advantage of the OTS benefits.

In a press release, the BBMP urged all eligible government entities to clear their pending property taxes by the deadline. Starting from April 2025, not doing so will lead to double taxation.

According to BBMP data, the city’s civic agencies are preparing to issue notices to recover long-term service fees for the prestigious government building, including Vidhana Soudha, which includes the state secretariat, and possesses outstanding membership fees of Rs 63 crore. However, the expansion of the OTS program now appears to be aimed at providing relief to government buildings.

Although the BBMP has always insisted that government buildings must replace property taxes and other taxes applicable to private property to pay services, many government agencies have not paid these fees since 2008 when the BBMP was founded. Since then, these unpaid dues have accumulated in the BBMP’s financial records, as well as complex interest and fines.
