Tata AIG’s retail health insurance in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh has increased 3x

Over the past year, Tata AIG General Insurance Co., Ltd.’s retail health portfolio has grown more than triple in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh’s retail health portfolio, providing health insurance to more than 82,000 people. This surge reflects the rising demand for reliable insurance in the southern market, where health insurance penetration remains below the national average.
The company has established a strong footprint in 51 regions of the region and has key branches in Hyderabad, Visaka Patnam, Vijayawada, Valangal, Karimnagar and Nellor. Its extensive network of over 1,600 hospitals and 14,500 consultants supports opportunities for improving healthcare and create jobs in semi-urban and rural areas.
To meet the growing healthcare needs, Tata AIG recently launched Medicare Choiceflexible and affordable health insurance plans. With medical inflation hitting 16% (13% higher than the national average), the product is designed to address rising treatment costs.
Medicare Choice Provides coverage for all ages, including lifelong young family discounts and 7.5% salary discounts. This makes it suitable for a variety of income groups and life stages.
Health cost trends show a sharp rise in treatment costs in the region. The cost of cancer-related treatment increased by 25% to an average of Rs 1.6 lakh, while the cost of coronary artery disease (CAD) surged by 40%. Tata Aig’s highest claim spend in 2025 hit a CAD case of Rs 1 crore in Hyderabad.
Pratik Gupta, head of the agency, pointed out that the plan is to increase market share from 3.6% to 5% and add 15,000 distribution partners. Rudraraju Rajagopal, head of accident and health claims, stressed that Telangana’s cashless utilization rate was 81% and Andhra Pradesh’s 68%, indicating improvements were provided by the service.
