“Taxable as…”: Trump slams Harvard University after freezing $2.2 billion in grants | World News

US News: In a stern warning to Harvard, U.S. President Donald Trump said the university would eventually lose tax-free status if it continues to “push” what he calls “a disease of politics, ideology and terrorist-inspired.” The U.S. president said in his social media platform Truth Social, the president said that world-renowned institutions should be taxed as political entities.

“Perhaps Harvard should lose its tax-free status and should be taxed as a political entity if it continues to push political, ideological and terrorist inspiration/support of “disease”. Remember, tax-free status depends entirely on acting in the public interest!” Trump wrote.

The U.S. government has been heating up at universities to stop political action on campus.

Earlier Monday, a joint Trump administration task force cracked down on anti-Semitism, saying it would freeze more than $2 billion in multi-year grants and contracts from Harvard University in Massachusetts. The president of Harvard University said the school will not follow the government’s demands for anti-Semitism.

“Harvard’s statement today reinforces a disturbing mindset of rights, which is local in our country’s most prestigious universities, that federal investment does not assume responsibility for upholding civil rights laws,” the task force said, citing news agency ANI. It further noted: “The destruction of learning that has plagued campuses in recent years is unacceptable. Harassment of Jewish students is unbearable.”

The task force announced a freeze of $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and a $60 million freeze for Harvard’s multi-year contract value.
