A taxi driver claims British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and his wife Nicola Green refused to pay a ticket price of nearly £600 for driving them over 360 miles from Italy to a ski resort in France.

The driver said he collected Lammy, 52, and his artist wife, 53, on April 10 in the welfare town near Bologna, who accompanied King Charles and Queen Camilla on a three-day state-owned visit to Italy.

But he claimed that Lammy “becomes aggressive” when he was asked to pay when he was asked to pay for a six-hour drive to the ski village of Haute Savoie, the French Alps.

The driver claimed that when he said he was paying €700 (£588) of the total fare of €1,550 (£1,305) by the passenger, he said he had not identified his receipt.

When they allegedly refused to pay, the driver said he left them at the destination and drove to the local police station to file a complaint.

After arriving at the police station, the police reportedly found two diplomatic passports and two license plates and a coded briefcase when the taxi was started, allowing them to identify Lammy.

The driver filed a formal complaint, leading the Bonneville Attorney’s Office to investigate in Senior Haute Savoie.

But the office also told French media Lammy and his wife are suing the driver for “fraudulent removal of luggage and cash” and the Foreign Ministry announced that the Foreign Minister “completely dismissed” the allegations against him.

GetTransfer using my service should pay me the difference, 850 euros.

They stopped paying. On the spot, the client snatched the receipt from me. “It’s a well-known fact that you want to write down your trip as a fee report later,” the driver said.

He added that if he knew who Lammy was, he would have accused “more”.

The driver complained: “They never said they wanted to work for the government.”

“In this transfer, we are driving special personnel, providing suitcases and sensitive documents. All of this comes at a price. They are also likely to be armed.

Boris Duffau, Bonneville prosecutor, said: “These stories are not the same. Of course, passengers did not say the same words as the driver when they filed the complaint.

Passengers assured that the driver has received the payment. The driver said no.

When the Bonneville prosecutor’s office investigates the matter, the driver will face a court hearing on November 3 to face “frauded luggage and cash fraud” after he drove with Lammy’s boots.

In addition to complaining to local authorities, the driver reportedly sent a notice to the British Embassy explaining the situation and requesting a friendly settlement of the fare.

A spokesman for the FCDO told MailOnline: “We completely refute these allegations. The fare is paid in full. The Foreign Secretary and his wife were appointed victims in the matter and the driver has been charged with theft.

“Because there is an ongoing legal process, it is inappropriate to comment inappropriately.”
