After members of the Peace Commission met with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy the next day and sought to intervene in the ceasefire in Kagar’s operation, he went to the residence of senior Congress leader K. Jana Reddy on Monday (28 April 2025) and discussed the issue with him.

Mr. Jana Reddy was the Home Secretary and a key figure in the talks with the then People’s War Organization (PWG) (now Maoist), which was in power in the YS Rajashekhar Reddy government in October 2004. Mr. Jana Reddy led historic talks on behalf of the state government, the first time Naxal’s leader has appeared in public in response to a proposal made by the government to ensure peace was held at the peak of the Naxalit movement.

The Chief Minister assured members of the Peace Commission that he would meet at his residence on Sunday and that he would meet with Mr. Jana Reddy to discuss the issue. Members of the committee, including its convener Chandrakumar, Professor Haragopal, Professor Anwar Khan of Durga Prasad, etc., urged the Chief Minister to discuss the ceasefire with the coalition government.

The committee’s meeting with the Chief Minister was in the context of several departments, promoting a ceasefire at the Karregutta on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border and having news with police and police and para military forces surrounding the hidden locations of a large number of Maoists. Mr. Revanth Reddy responded to their defense, saying Congress always regarded the Naxal issue as a matter of law and order, and a social issue.

Later, in an informal meeting with journalists, the chief minister said the party must discuss the issue thoroughly before the position. After discussion with colleagues in the cabinet, the government’s position will be spelled later. He said the party’s high command would remain in the loop and the Peace Commission’s request would be sent to senior leaders.

He said Mr. Jana Reddy and K Keshava Rao, the consultant (public affairs) will study these aspects and coordinate. He reminded them that the two of them played a key role in their 2004 meeting with the People’s War Group in Andhra Pradesh.

Interestingly, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao also made similar demands for peace talks at a party open meeting in Valangar on Sunday (28 April 2025). The unexpected demand for public forums by KCR not only surprised BRS leaders, but also people.
