The Delhi High Court on Friday (2 May 2025) refused to recall its order directed TMC MP Saket Gokhale to pay former diplomat Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri in compensation of Rs 5 million.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav also trashed Mr Gokhale's plea for relief of more than 180 days.
“We can do nothing. We must reject both applications,” the judge said.
Justice Kaulav said there was no explanation for delaying contact with the court.
Ms. Puri contacted the High Court in 2021, alleging that Mr. Gokhale had made reckless and false allegations about her financial affairs in the context of her apartment owned in Geneva, thus damaging her goodwill and reputation.
In the verdict of 1 July 2024, the High Court restricted Gokhale from posting anything about his archive against Ms. Puri on any social media or electronic platform, in addition to directing the apology and paying Rs 5 million as damages.
Ms. Puri is made up of senior advocate Maninder Singh and law firm Karanjawala & Co. represent.
