Telangana government has decided to provide quality rice to families who use the Public Distribution System (PDS) channels, from UGADI [March 30].
Plans to identify coverage for families that issue new cards
The exquisite rice will be given to the family members of the ration card at a price of six kilograms per month. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will officially launch a new plan on UGADI Day and will benefit from the 8.99 million family members with ration cards across the state. The plan, known as the “revolutionary step” of Minister of Civil Materials and Irrigation, also envisions coverage for households that have been identified as new ration cards in the coming days.
PDS rice transfer
Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said the initiative has been considered as crude rice provided through the PDS channel and the beneficiaries have not been consumed by the beneficiaries. As a result, a large amount of rice was transferred to other states.
Initiative covering 84% of the population
“The transfer of PDS rice is not consumed most of the time, and the government spends about Rs 70,000 crore on the scheme every year,” he said.
The minister told the Legislative Council on Wednesday (March 26, 2025) that the government is considering methods and measures to improve the lives of ration dealers and will formulate policies in this direction. “The process of providing goods other than rice through the PDS channel will begin soon,” he said, answering concerns expressed by BJP member Palvai Harish.
