Telangana urges NDSA to ensure the safety of Srisailam dam

Hyderabad: Telangana once again urges the National Dam Safety Agency to ensure emergency repairs on Andhra Pradesh on the Srisailam Dam to ensure its safety, especially during this year’s monsoon season for only more than a month.

Senior Irrigation Department officials discussed the need for repairs, led by its team of NDSA members, whose chairman Anil Jain, was in the city on Wednesday. It is understood that Telangana officials told Jain that so far, the AP has not taken any measures to repair the huge plunge gap next to the dam, although the issue was issued three months ago with the NDSA notice. According to reports, NDSA officials visited the Srisailam dam on Tuesday, and he assured Telangana that the AP will carry out repairs, which may be by filling the plunge pool holes with Tetrapods as an immediate safety measure to reduce the speed of water being released from the dam.

The NDSA also learned that the Telangana irrigation officials were told to prepare emergency action plans and dam interrupt analysis for all dams in the state, and that officials assured NDSA that it would do so. The safety of the Nagarjunasagar Dam was also discussed at the meeting, and Telangana officials noted that the dam was not under their control because of the CRPF. However, Jain informed them that because the dam belongs to Telangana, the state is responsible for the repairs needed to ensure the dam is safe.

The request of the official, the NDSA should provide specific instructions for repairs or other works required by Kaleshwaram Ballages as it did not include any such directives in its report, and therefore learned that the NDSA Chairman asked the officer to meet with the NDSA officials in Delhi to discuss the issue.
