Temporary relief for Indian water farmers when Trump stops 26% tariffs
A water farmer inspected the quality of the produce in a pond in the Kinaseema district on Thursday. Farmers are relieved as Trump suspended 90-day reciprocity tariffs on Indian seafood products.
Water farmers and stakeholders received temporary relief after U.S. President Donald Trump suspended 26% tariffs on Indian seafood products for 90 days.
“Seafood exporters should immediately resume shipping to the U.S. as Mr. Trump freezes the current tariffs, thus saving water farmers,” said Kota Ramu, a farmer in Bantumili, Krishna region.
Producers and traders urged state and central governments to engage in better trade agreements with the U.S. president, while farmers have called on the Aquaculture Advisory Committee to seek a free trade agreement with the U.S.
Exports of the most imported seafood products from India have ceased after Trump announced reciprocity tariffs on April 2.
Although exports to the United States have ceased, it is the usual business, just like exports to China, Japan, Southeast Asia and other countries, continuing, representative of the Indian Seafood Exporters Association (SEAI).
“We are reviewing the situation from time to time with Seai leaders in other states,” said Seai AP Chairman K. Anand Kumar.
