Sunil Kakkar becomes the first Indian president of Tapan Sahoo Maruti Suzuki’s board of directors

Maruti Suzuki India announced the appointment of Sunil Kakkar to the board of directors of the top automotive giants as additional director and full-time director. As a result, Kakkar has become a local Indian employee and is nominated as a board director by his parents, Suzuki Motor Corporation.

“At the meeting held on March 26, 2025, the Board of Directors approved the appointment of Sunil Kakkar as an additional director and full-time director and designated as a director (Company Planning) for a three-year period, effective from April 1, 2025, as of March 31, 2028,” said Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL LTD (MSIL) (MSIL LTD) in the Regulatory Exchange.

Kakkar has become the first Indian internal employee of Maruti Suzuki to be nominated by Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) as a member of the board and full-time director. Kakkar is Maruti Suzuki Lifer with over 35 years of experience in automotive expertise in various identities. As a senior executive, he is currently in charge of corporate planning verticals for Maruti Suzuki, India.

Maruti Suzuki India Leadership Update

The Board of Directors also approved the designation of Kenichiro Toyofuku from directors (company planning) to directors (sustainability), effective April 1, 2025. In another announcement, the board approved Dr. Tapan Sahoo as Senior Management (SMP) of Maruti. Dr. Sahoo has been designated as the head of Digital Enterprise (DE) and Information and Cybersecurity, starting from April 1.

Dr. Tapan Sahoo is responsible for developing strategies for new era technology solutions to enhance customer experience, use cutting-edge technologies such as AI/ML to improve operational efficiency, collaborate with startups and academia, and more.

Sunil Kakkar’s tenure at Maruti Suzuki India

Sunil Kakkar also served as a board director of several MSIL deputy companies, including Mark Ending Systems Ltd., SKH Metals Ltd. and Hanon Climate Systems India Pvt Ltd., serving as full-time directors, Maruti Suzuki said Kakkar said Kakkar would stop April April Aprirn April Aprric narpory (Smp) on the company’s senior management (SMP) (SMP).

Kakkar is a key member of the Executive Committee, driving and preparing the roadmap to achieve the company’s ambitious goals. Throughout his career, he has held major leadership positions, including plant leader in supply chain verticals and Gurgaon production operations.

It added that he played a crucial role in building some of the most strategic projects and ensuring deep localized supply chains. He has been forming joint ventures (JVS) with companies from Japan, Italy and France for projects such as controllers, AMT technology, plastic fuel tanks and high-response metal technology.

The car major added in the submission that Sunil Kakkar, a graduate of Kanpur Indian Institute of Technology, has an engineering degree and earned an MBA from the Asian Institute of Technology, where he is a gold medalist.
