The peasants are not exploiters of nature, but they are Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, bishop of the diocese of the Samar branch of the syro-malabar church.
He opened a cleaning drive on Thamaraassery Ghat Road, a parish-organized by the diocese, to mark its 40Th Anniversary celebration, Saturday (May 10). Mr Inchananiyil pointed out that those who accuse farmers of exploiting nature should see the number of people who arrived at Ghat Road in the early morning. He said that all the waste in Ghat Road and throughout the state is produced by people. He added that the accumulation of waste in public has become an embarrassing fact in Kerala.
According to sources, many people, including the families of settler farmers, participated in the drive and cleared waste from Adivaram in Puthuppady to Lakkidi in Wayanad. Plastic waste and glass bottles were purchased by the Puthuppady Grama Panchayat authorities. The parish also plans to implement a plan to collect isolation waste from its member houses.
