The age concession directly recruited to TN government services continues until September 2026

The state government has decided to allow maximum age limits for various competitive exams, and will not directly recruit government services until next September. In light of the delays in various exams due to the 19th pandemic, the state government issued an order in September 2021 that raised the two-year direct recruitment age limit.

In a recent communication, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam clarified that the decision was a “one-time concession”, adding that this only applies to recruitment by various agencies and appointment authorities (by notice) until September 12, 2026.

Mr Muruganandam added that in this regard, the necessary revisions to the special/temporary rules are needed. Communication has been sent to all government departments, collectors, Madras High Court, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, Teacher Recruitment Committee, Medical Service Recruitment Committee, Tamil Nadu Unified Service Recruitment Committee and Tamil Nadu Forest Uniform Recruitment Committee, etc.

In 2021, the then Minister of Finance and Human Resources Management announced a one-time age concession for the General Assembly. The Human Resources Management Department issued the same order on September 13, 2021. However, it does not specify how long the concession will remain. At the same time, some government departments raised questions about whether to continue to relax. The Chief Secretary’s clarification was in response to these concerns. Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that thousands of positions in government departments will be filled.
