The Center announces the Interim Committee of the Central Consumption Tax Commission of Customs

The Centre has established four interim committees to speed up the resolution of dispute resolution center consumer cases. The move aims to reduce litigation and provide taxpayers with alternative mechanisms that are friendly to resolve customs and excise tax matters. The board of directors is expected to run temporarily until a permanent dispute resolution framework is finalized.

The four interim boards will operate in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata.

In her budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Central Consumption Tax Commission of Customs will cease operations on April 1, 2025 and will be replaced by the interim board of directors who settled on the interim board, which will resolve all pending applications previously completed between March 31 and March 31, 2025.
The committee was formed to reduce litigation, give taxpayers the opportunity to settle their dues without lengthy litigation, and encourage those who may evade taxes to clean up.

However, with the FAQs (FAQs) of the Finance Act, it was stated in 2025 that settlement committees are growing due to existing provisions on compound offences and penalties under customs law.
