According to the recommendations of the Finance Committee, the Alliance Government has increased grants to cities and local agencies. But Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said in Hubballi on Sunday that the state government failed to use them correctly.

Josh said: “My message is that in Karnataka, over Rs 3 billion of central government funds are still unutilized. I am not playing a political role here. My concern is that grants from local agencies released from the centre should be appropriately utilized.”

He spoke at an event and distributed date letters to Pourakarmikas.

“We should have systems and processes in place to ensure that no matter which party is in power in the center, the flow of funds should be regular and automatic. Just as the center releases funds in a timely manner, the state government should do this from time to time,” he said.

Legislative Assembly member Prasad Abbayya said the state government has met the long-term requirement to directly recruit civil workers and paid them directly.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah solved the problem. The new system was launched in Mysuru, MLA said.

MLA Mahesh Tenginakai said out of the 870 civilian workers directly recruited, 127 have been recruited. He asked the state government to recruit the rest immediately and release all pending grants to local institutions in the city.

Mayor Bheemappa Badiger, Hubballi-Dharwad City Council officials and others were present.
