The courtroom drama was released 32 years ago with a strong dialogue, becoming Superhit, and Sunny Deol won the U.S. National Award.

However, before these films address sensitive issues in society, a court drama was released for 32 years and shocked the country as it was based on gang rape. The movie in question is Damini, starring Rishi Kapoor, Meenakshi Seshadri, Sunny Deol and Amrish Puri.

Damini is written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and released on April 30, 1993. The court drama was produced at about Rs 250 crore and continued to be a super scene as it made Rs 11 crore worldwide. The main reason for success is Sunny’s excellent portrayal of advocate Govind Srivastava. Even though the Gada actor came in the second half, he amazes the audience with his amazing performance and memorable dialogue, including Tareekh Pe Tareekh and Dhai Kilo Ka Kaath. Sunny even won Damini’s National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

On the 32nd anniversary of Damini’s release, released on Tuesday, April 30, 2025, the JAAT actor shared some iconic moments from his film on his Instagram, writing: “This movie is better than speaking out – Damini still reverberates in the hearts of millions. #Thank you.”
