BJP leader Gyan Dev Ahuja sprinkled Ganga Water in a ram temple in Alwar, Rajasthan, to “purify” it on Monday (7 April 2025) on Monday (7 April 2025), the second day after Congress’ Tikaram Jully attended the dedication ceremony there.
Congress leaders, including opposition leaders in the Rajasthan Parliament, Mr Julie and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said Mr Ahuja’s actions were insulting the Dalits, but the BJP leaders denied the allegation.
Mr Ahuja insisted that his actions had no caste perspective, but defended his actions, saying that Congress leaders had “no moral authority” to participate in the party leaders questioned Lord Ram’s existence and “boycotted” the dedication ceremony held in Ayoiya last year.
Ram Navami and Mr Jully attended the dedication ceremony of the Ram Temple of the Alwar Residential Society on Sunday (6 April 2025).
On Monday (April 7, 2025), Ahuja said the dedication ceremony was a “good plan” but there were some “differences”. “I went there today and sprinkled the Ganges to purify the temple’s houses,” he told reporters in Alwar.
“Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi filed an affidavit in court, calling Ram a fabulous myth.
When contacted, Mr. Ahuja told pti Because of the views and attitudes of the Congress leaders towards Lord Ram, he took a step, not because Mr. Julie was a “Dalit”.
He said: “I purified this temple because the Congress leaders believed that Lord Ram was a fabulous feature. They questioned Lord Ram’s existence. It was wrong to say that I took this step because he (Julili) was a Dalit and entered a temple.”
On the other hand, Mr Juli claimed that Mr Aguha’s actions demonstrated the BJP’s mentality towards the Dalits. He claimed that this was not only an attack on his faith, but an effort to promote untouchable sin.
“I raised the Dalit voice in Parliament and talked about the movements against untouchable movements. But the BJP’s mentality has made them wash the temple with the Ganges since I was Dalit, and I visited the temple.”
“Does the BJP hate the Dalits so much that they can’t even see us in the ritual assembly? Is it only the BJP leaders who have the right to God?” he posed. Mr Jully asked Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and BJP National Department Chairman Madan Rathore to clarify whether they support “baptizing” the temple if Dalit visits it.
Mr. Garrot criticized Mr. Aguha, who said: “After the opposition Tikaram Jully visited the temple, BJP leader Gyandev Ahuja sprinkled with Ganges water, reflecting the BJP’s narrow narrowing against the Dalits. This is unacceptable in the 21st century.” He tried to know whether Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and BJP Governor Madan Rathore agreed to the actions of his senior leaders. “Will the BJP take action for this offensive act?” Several MPs criticized Mr. Ahaya’s actions and condemned the state’s BJP-led government.
Dalit leader Mr Jully is the Congress MLA for the Alwar (rural) seat, while Mr Ahuja is a former BJP legislator in the Alwar Ramgarh segment.
