Tiruchi Airport Director S. Gnaneswara Rao said Friday that it plans to entrust an international express freight terminal at the airport.
Mr Rao said there will be an immediate discussion on operation and maintenance of AAI cargo logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd. or through the PPP (public and private partnership) model.
He said clearance from the Civil Aviation Safety Agency (BCA) must be obtained, and BCAS officials will inspect the facilities at Tiruchi Airport for some approvals.
Mr Gnaneswara Rao, who held a meeting with reporters at the airport, including Courier Cargo agents, said there was no problem with the customs department as they had issued notices to start the international courier operations at Tiruchi Airport.
Regarding the delay in starting the express freight business, Mr. Rao said that although the customs authorities have notified international express operations, there is no customs here to notify the agent.
“During the discussion we knew that four agents had registered with the customs department. We received some feedback from the meeting, which will be accepted with the AAICLAS authorities in New Delhi,” he said.
Mr Rao said the guarantee is guaranteed by the agent for the goods and therefore measures will be taken to begin operations soon.
