A major disaster was avoided at the 5×800 MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) – built near the village of Veerlapalem in Damaracherla Mandal in the Nargonda area and on Sunday (27 April 2025) evening (27 April 2025) evening, the unit was in time for several months.

According to officials from Telangana Power Generation Company Ltd. (TG-GENCO), oil in Unit-I boilers caught fire after an unexpected electrical spark. The fire spread to different parts of the device in a few minutes. But the rapid reaction of the factory engineers with a mobile and portable fire extinguisher burned, causing it to be abandoned without causing huge damage.

The third unit of the power plant is already in commercial operation, although it has not officially opened since December 24. Since November 2024, trials for Unit I are underway. Official sources said the unit I had generated 278.51 million units and was provided to the grid until due in March. Similarly, IT-II generated 498.73 million units of energy and was provided to the grid until the end of March.

Genco and the state government’s management plans have planned to start all five units by May this year and synchronize them with the grid, but various issues have delayed its commercial operations.

Sources said one of the main reasons for the citation was the delay in the completion of the rails to the power plant, bringing raw materials (coal) from Singaporeni Mining. As a result, it is being transported by road to trials of consumer units II and ITUT-I. The lack of sufficient number of engineers to manage the operation of the plant is also considered another major reason.
