Addressing significant improvements in online gambling, betting activities: Vaishnaw

The government said on Wednesday (March 19, 2025) that there has been significant improvement in addressing online gambling and gambling activities, with more than 1,000 betting and gambling sites banning in 2024.
Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw told Lok Sabha that both the state government and the centre must work together on such activities.

In response to the supplement, the Minister asserted that any violation would take action within the constitutional framework as long as any violation occurred in the central government notice.
Various members have raised concerns about online gambling activities and violent online games, which have adversely affected young people.

According to Mr Vaishnaw, 1,097 betting and gambling sites were banned in 2024 and there has been a significant improvement in handling such activities with coordination among various agencies dealing with cyber-related crimes.
He added that overall, a good legal framework is being developed.
