The Great Young IPL Feeling of West Indies Vaibhav Suryavanshi compares with 17-year-old Sachin Tendulkar, recalling shocking events

Vaibhav became the youngest batsman to win a century in the T20 cricket game and was the fastest Indian to reach this milestone in IPL history.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old prodigy from Rajasthan Royals, swept the world of cricket on Monday, April 28, when he became the youngest player ever, the youngest player to play against the Gujarat Titans in the T20 cricket match. Cricket legends quickly appreciated the admiration of this young talent, and the 14-year-old’s achievements were clearly impressed. Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop shared that Suryavanshi’s inning reminded him of a young Sachin Tendulkar who left a lasting impression 35 years ago.
In a chat with ESPN Cricinfo, the bishop recalled a match he played against Derbyshire, India in Chesterfield. With the required running speed, he thought he could surpass the young “kids” with some rearguard delivery, assuming he couldn’t get in touch. But Sachin shocked the bishop, hitting the ball six, deep in the middle and sending it straight into a tree, making him incredible.
“I played in Derby County, we were against India at Chesterfield. Never forgot it. We hit the first one, we must have done it… Don’t know the exact number. Chesterfield bounced. You got in there, it bounced. We were in the game, and it was hard… His hands were high (his hands (bounced his hands), he came across a bat, we proposed, our leader caught up with this, I thought, I thought, I thought, I thought. At the end of the game, it was a little challenging, this little kid couldn’t hit me anywhere.
Ian Bishop noted that Vaibhav Suryavanshi returned to the first century at a century of age, compared to the game of the day, with some top bowling hits. He mentioned that both Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj expressed the same admiration for Bishop to Suryavanshi of Sachin.
The West Indian added: “This kid is still young. He is 14 years old and has participated in a world-class bowler. It must have shocked the daylight of life for Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj and everyone else.”
Vaibhav gave an incredible hit rate showcase on Monday and had some experienced international bowlers. He pushed Ishant Sharma with three sixes and two fours in a final game, then brought Spinner Washington Sundar to the mission with two sixes and fours and fours, earning the fastest half-century in the 2025 IPL in just 17 balls. He didn’t stop there. He beat Afghan fast bowler Karim Janat with 94 to score three sixes and three quarters before he played against Rashid Khan.
