“The guy who bought Tesla because Elon is crazy”: Musk says he plans to be CEO for the next 5 years unless I die

Elon Musk said Tuesday he plans to continue as Tesla CEO for at least the next five years, in an opposition to speculation that it will be replaced soon.

The billionaire entrepreneur spoke at an event in Doha and was quoted by news agency Reuters. Someone bought Tesla because Elon is crazy. ”

The comments were posted after weeks of speculation about the company’s future. The report first appeared in late April 2025, indicating that Tesla’s board of directors began looking for a new CEO as early as March. On May 1, the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported that the board had contacted several executive search companies to explore options for Musk’s potential successor, citing concerns about his divisive focus, especially due to his poor financial situation in the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Tesla in the first quarter of 2025.

Musk strongly denied these claims, saying the WSJ report was “willful false” and “moral violation”. Tesla Chairman Robyn Denholm also pushed back, marking the report as “absolutely false” and being confident in Musk’s leadership.

Despite the denial, the reports sparked a level of commitment between investors and analysts about Musk’s commitment to Tesla as he played multiple adventures and public roles.
In Doha, Musk tried to assure supporters that Tesla had “turned around” and described Europe as the company’s weakest market, while claiming “everywhere else.”
He stressed that “reasonable control” of Tesla is the most important factor in continuing to serve as CEO. Musk also said that the “violent acts committed against my company” were “a historically wrong aspect.”
