Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati announced the launch of its new four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Program. The program will be provided by Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta Institute of Health Sciences and Technology (JBMSHST) of IIT Guwahati. Key highlights of the program will include collaborative learning experiences with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati and Guwahati National Institute of Drug Education and Research (NIPER).

The application process for the program will begin on April 25, 2025 and will remain open until May 25, 2025. The program will provide a strong academic foundation for comprehensive curriculum across clinical, clinical and clinical fields. Students will gain hands-on skills development through professional engineering modules designed to bridge the gap between technology and healthcare.

New Features

A key feature of the program is the clinical immersion experience where students will have the opportunity to interact with leading surgeons and physicians. In addition, the course has a cross-institutional learning framework in partnership with AIIMS Guwahati and Niper Guwahati to ensure exposure to different perspectives in biomedical science and engineering.

The program course is designed to be multidisciplinary and future-focused, covering a wide range of topics including mechanics, electrical and electronic systems, mathematical modeling, design and prototype, and bioinformatics. In addition to this, students will also participate in advanced topics such as: Biomedical Equipment, Pharmacology, Informatics and AI Medicine, Biostart, Sensors and Wearables

This diverse course course will enable students to serve the knowledge and skills needed for innovation at the intersection of engineering and healthcare. From a career perspective, graduates of the program will find opportunities in a variety of fields, including bioinspiration, biomedical equipment, pharmacology and therapeutics, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence, as well as the research and development of health technologies.
