The huge setback for Gujarat Titans is Jos Butler

The IPL will resume on Saturday, with the playoffs starting on May 29 and the finals taking place on June 3. The Gujarat Giants are leading the way and only need to win one of the remaining three games to play in the playoffs.
Jos Buttler announced that if Gujarat Titans qualify, he will give up on the Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs in order to fully participate in England’s upcoming day and T20 against the West Indies. The former captain is one of five players in the IPL, who have been appointed on a one-day England team. The rescheduling of the IPL caused by political tensions between India and Pakistan led to a conflict with the arrangements of the England series.
The IPL is scheduled to resume on Saturday, with the playoffs starting on May 29 and finally on June 3.
Goalkeeper Buttler will head to India to attend the conclusion of the group stage before returning to England to participate in the first ODI on May 29. All-rounders Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians, respectively, are expected to follow a similar path.
Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton, including two other IPL players in England’s ODI team, are not expected to return to India as their team will not qualify for the playoffs.
England will face the West Indies with three ODIs and then start three T20 series starting on June 6.
The Gujarat Titans currently occupy the highest position on the IPL 2025 point table, amassing 16 points from 11 games. It’s just a win to ensure a position in the playoffs. Jos Buttler hit the ball in the third position of the season, with a great performance and an average score of 71.43. Experienced British cricketers are expected to compete in the team’s remaining three league phases before setting off for international commitments.
In related developments, Espncricinfo has confirmed that Kusal Mendis will join his fellow Sri Lankan, Dasun Shanaka, to participate in the Gujarat giant’s canoe. Given the limited ticket inspector options available within the squad (Anuj Rawat is the only alternative), Mundes is expected to seamlessly integrate into Titans’ XI during Buttler’s absence.
Kusal Mendis has performed well in the Pakistan Premier League (PSL), where he scored 143 times for the Quetta Gladiators at an astonishing pace of over 168. During his T20 career, the 30-year-old has accumulated over 4,700 runs in his T20 career, including two centuries and 32 and a half centuries. It is worth noting that this marks Mendis’s inauguration in the Indian Premier League. However, due to new alternative regulations, GT will not have the option to retain Sri Lanka’s ticket inspector batsman next season.
