Kunal Kamra makes statement after “habitat” dispute

Kamra’s powerless pillage of politicians and their inability to deal with criticism, argues that freedom of speech should not be limited to praising the strong.
Comedian Kunal Kamra made a strong statement after controversy over his performance at the Mumbai Habitat Comedy Club. The venue was vandalized after Kamra’s remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shinde supporters rushed in to protest Kamra’s joke, who called Shinde “Gaddar” (traitor). In response to the backlash, Kamla firmly said he would not apologize.
Kamra clarified that the Habitat Comedy Club was not responsible for his remarks. “Access is just a platform for various performances. It has no power to what I say or do.” He also compared the attack to irrational behavior, saying, “Attacking a character who speaks a comedian is as meaningless as overturning the tomatoes carried by a truck because you don’t like the butter chicken you serve because you don’t like you.”
Kamra’s powerless pillage of politicians and their inability to deal with criticism, argues that freedom of speech should not be limited to praising the strong. “You can’t joke at the expense of public figures and it doesn’t change the nature of my rights,” he said, also questioning whether legal action will be taken against those who destroy the venue.
Kamra noted that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials did not need to inform and demolish parts of the site. “Will the law be deployed fairly against those who resort to vandalism?” he asked.
Kamra reiterated his position when talking about his critics, declaring: “I won’t apologize. I’m talking about Ajit Pawar (first-generation vice president) about eknath shinde (second-generation CM). I’m not afraid of this mob, and I won’t hide under the bed and wait for this.”
The controversy sparked debate on freedom of speech and political intolerance. Although many support Kamra’s right to satirize, others continue to criticize him. The event raises questions about artistic freedom and the growing political influence on India’s creation of space.
