Shock and grief caught a village in a village in Karu district on Wednesday (30 April 2025) after news broke that three residents, including two children, were tragically killed in a hotel fire in Kolkata on the evening of Tuesday (29 April 2025).

The deceased were identified as Muthukrishnan, 61, P. Diya, 10, and P. Rithan, 3, all of whom were praised from Jothivadamam, a small village near Uppidamangalam in Karur district. They are one of 14 people who died in the fire and are part of five family members who have been visiting Kolkata since April 17.

Prabhu, 40, lost his daughter Diya, son Rithan and father-in-law Muthukrishnan, who said the family had lived in Rituraj Hotel in Kolkata for the past two days. He added that he and his wife Mathumitha were also with them, and he walked out of dinner when the hotel fire broke out. He said Muthukrishnan, Diya and Rithan remained in the room because the flames were too strong to escape.

“It was all over in a few minutes. There was no obvious emergency exit. Although we tried to get to the room, we could not suffer this pain due to the strong intensity of the fire. It was very painful for us,” said Mr. Prab, aloe merchant. Hindu By phone.

He added that the family had packed their luggage and was ready to check the hotel after dinner.

When the residents of Jothimadam learned about the incident, they gathered outside the house in Prabhu. Sad people, they express their condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones.

Some of Prabhu’s family members were left to Kolkata to bring the dead body back to the village.
