Fatima Sana retains Pakistan captain’s World Cup qualifiers

Lahore: All-rounder Fatima Sana is retained as the captain of Pakistan, which will be held in the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Lahore from April 9 to 19.
Pakistan Cricket Council (PCB) selector recalled young batsman Shawal Zulfiqar to join the team after recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in New Zealand in December 2023.
Pakistan’s veteran all-around player Nida Dar is the former captain and is not included in the team.
DAR and another experienced athlete, Aliya Riaz, were excluded from the Women’s Central Contract in November last year.
But Aliya was selected as the national team in the qualifiers.
Pakistan will hold the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Lahore in Bangladesh, Ireland, Thailand, Scotland and the West Indies in Lahore, and the LCCA grounds in Lahore.
This is the second ICC event held in Pakistan this year, following the men’s championship trophy that ended on March 9.
The PCB said the Pakistani squad was selected after the selection committee evaluated the players’ fitness and format in an ongoing preparatory camp.
Pakistani Squad: Fatima Sana (captain), Muneeba Ali (vice-captain), Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Gull Feroza, Najiha Alvi (wicket-keeper), Nashra Sundhu, Natalia Parvaiz, Omaima Sohail, Rameen Shamim, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Sidra Amin, Sidra Nawaz (ticket inspector) and Syeda Aroob Shah.
